Easy Rider II, Day 40, May 1, 2022

Oberlin LA fire station bay

Glad I got an early start riding with my new cycling buddies this morning, because we barely beat a major thunderstorm to our destination for tonight, the Oberlin LA fire station.

The new crew, at least for next couple of days, includes Dave, who lives in Christ Church NZ, and Marshall, from Gainesville VA. They are West Point alums.

It turns out that Dave and Marshall previously had been riding with Erin and Casey, who are apparently a day or two behind us.

All four of them are planning rest days in New Orleans but I’ll be moving on. No more rest days for me unless absolutely required by bad weather. Time to get this done.

One thing that Dave, Marshall and I have in common is that we all have benefited from major surgeries. Marshall has one artificial hip, and I’ve got two. Dave has bigger bragging rights: He has a cow’s valve in his heart.

I guess if we can do this ride, people with their original parts should be able to do it, too?

When we arrived at the station, Oberlin Fire Chief Ryan Dagle (photo below) showed us the ropes, and then went home. Thanks, Chief!

Later that evening, we were joined at the station by Mike, another senior cyclist we met in Merryville. He was soaked, after riding up through the rain to get to the station.

I forgot to ask whether he had any artificial parts.
