Roadside crawfish home |
I am loving those shade-providing, roadside trees again today, as I finally pedaled my way out of the Texas hill country and into the flatlands.
Today I believe I also rode what is reputed to be the longest, straightest and flatest section of the Southern Tier (photo below with bike), about 10 miles long, according to my calculations.
One six-mile section of today’s route was in horrible shape because it was being resurfaced. This was no fun to ride, particularly in heavy traffic.
The shoulders on most of the rest of today’s route also were atrocious, with the rumble strip using up most of the space. Thankfully most of these roads were lightly trafficked.
Silsbee’s Red Cloud RV Park is very nice for $15. I really loved the air-conditioned clubhouse, where I washed a load of laundry and cooked dinner. But it looks like I’ll be breaking out the earplugs tonight because there’s a huge biker party with a ZZ Top cover band going on at the park next door.
