It was very windy today. If I had ridden, at least half of my riding would have been into the wind. So taking the rest day was a good call.
Unfortunately, it appears that the high temperatures will be in the 90s and up to 101 until Tuesday the 19th, when I arrive in Austin. At that point, the high temps will drop into the 80s, at least for several days.
I love my Da Brim cycling helmet hat. It provides great shade out in the sun.
But as I have discovered during this tour, the hat acts like an anchor in the wind, and the wind gusts have banged the brim into my forehead so frequently and with such vigor that I am bruising.
So from now on, I’ll be riding brimless when it’s windy, with extra sunscreen, to see how that works.
My big mission today was to resupply at Walmart. I’ve now got plenty of provisions to camp for the next four days. I also bought an adjustable wrench so I can tighten my kickstand periodically.
Manuel’s, the Mexican restaurant next door to my hotel, is first rate. So I’ll be heading there again tonight.
Tomorrow, it’s 75 miles to my destination—Wes Cooksey County RV Park. So I am planning to start riding at sunrise.
