Easy Rider II, Day 30, April 15, 2022

Today’s ride to Lost Maples Natural Area was short but steep, with 3,253 feet of climbing over 45.7 miles.

The ride took me through the most scenic terrain I had yet to see in Texas.

This was also the only day in recent memory where the wind was not a major factor.

Due to some sort of miscommunication, the state campground had booked me into a primitive site. The site was more than a mile up into the steep rocky hills beyond the park’s developed area.

There was no way I would have been able to get up there with my bike.

Fortunately, the campground host and Ranger Wayne intervened in my behalf and let me stay in the campground’s overflow area.

Ranger Wayne also let me use his cell phone, which had a connection to the park’s private wifi network, to let Marisol know I was OK.

There was no cell service and the campground’s public wifi network didn’t work.

What a great guy. Thanks, Wayne!
