Homecoming 2021, Day 26, 7/11; 42.4 miles to MacKerricher State Park; TM: 1,093.7

Topped out on Leggett Hill
It was back to the coast after 3,500 feet of climbing for me today, where the temps remain on the chilly side, thank goodness.

The ascent over Leggett Hill was surprisingly easy, but only because I got an early start.

After a 5 am wakeup, I was pedaling by 7, as were the previously mentioned group of kids who have been riding from Eugene OR and are headed to San Francisco.

The kids are on a tour sponsored by Apogee Adventures, a Brunswick ME company that organizes travel outings for teens. Great bunch. Having the adventure of their lives.

I didn’t have any problems at Standish-Hickey, though groups of campers were using the hiker-biker site to smoke marijuana.

Maybe it was the designated site?

Seems odd that folks would be OK with passing joints during a Covid area.

But maybe they were all already vaccinated?

Sadly, the showers have been turned off in a drought-related effort to conserve water at MacKerricher State Park, where I am staying tonight.

There is still some red-tinged water for drinking.

A park staffer assured me that the park’s water is sanitized and potable but that no park staffers actually drink it.

They drink bottled water, he says.
