What a difference a day makes.
I was the only cyclist in the hiker-biker sites at the campground last night and the night before.
But there are several dozen touring cyclists at Kitsap Memorial State Park tonight. Some are just out from overnights from Seattle.
Thankfully the park has a no-turndown policy for cyclists. And I and several others are hunkering down for the night in the park’s picnic area.
Turns out that 40-50 of the cyclists are on a group ride organized by Swift Industries, a Seattle-based manufacturer of bike-packing bags. The ride leader invited me over to the group’s campfire to join in on the festivities. But I passed in favor of sleep.
I possibly could have ridden at least 20 miles farther today. But I missed the 8:15 am ferry from Whidbey Island to Port Townsend and the next one didn’t depart until 10:15 am. But what the heck? It’s not like I’m in a race. I’m on vacation and retired.
And the fact is I’m enjoying the slower pace.
Wish I had an altimeter. I am curious about how many feet I have been climbing.
There were a lot of hills on today’s section. Seemed like I was using my granny gear most of the day.
The sections I liked the most today were crossing the windy Hood Canal bridge and the Larry Scott Memorial bike path through Port Townsend.
