I liked the Salt Point SP hiker-biker site so much that I was tempted to take a rest day there.
But since there was no shower—and no place to recharge my phone—I decided to do a short day to Bodega Dunes campground instead.
Along the way, I ran into the Apogee Adventures kids again. Looks like we’re leapfrogging each other and mostly staying at the same places. But they are booking regular campsites because their group is too large for the hiker-biker sites.
I also stopped to tour Fort Ross, which was originally built to protect the interests of a Russian company in the early 1800s.
At the Bodega Dunes campsite, I met Phill, a former USDA worker (Natural Resources and Conservation Services), who worked briefly in Afghanistan but mostly out of Napa CA where he now lives.
Too bad he’s heading north, because it would be fun to ride with him for a while.
He’s a very nice man who refused to allow me to pick up my part of the tab for dinner at a Mexican restaurant in the town of Bodega Bay, which is a short walk from the campground.
