Homecoming 2021; Days 11 & 12, 6/26 & 6/27; rest days, Nehalem Bay State Park

With the local forecast now calling for a high of 96 on Sunday, and with word that there’s little shade at next campground to the south, I’ve decided to take two rest days here at Nehalem Bay State Park.

This is one of the best hiker-biker sites in the state system, I am told, with plenty of shade and grocery stores and restaurants nearby.

Traffic is expected to be particularly bad through this weekend, as folks from the east try to escape the state heat wave’s triple-digit temperatures there by heading for the coast.

Home sweet home for 2 rest days, Nehalem Bay SP

So it seems prudent to wait for Monday to get back on route, when the high temps are forecast to be back in 60s.

Tom and Brittany from Eugene OR are also taking a second rest day here, and plenty of other cyclists are here too.

Other cyclists I met here are featured in the photos below, top to bottom:.

Darrel, Santa Clara, CA;

Blaise, Del Mar CA; Blaise is riding the TransAmerica cross-country route, which heads east to Virginia. His parents, who are both medical doctors now, attended UCSD at the same time I did in the early 1970s.

Mike and Dawn, Coloma CA;

l-r; Mary, Portland OR; Rob, Oakland CA; Claudia, Portland;

Kelly, Houston;

Grace, Seattle.
